How Hippocampus Learning Centers in India Used Tilli to help their 1st to 3rd Graders better manage big emotions!

At Tilli, we are passionate about empowering children with the social-emotional skills they need to thrive. Our partnership with Hippocampus Learning Centers is evidence of the powerful change play-based Social-Emotional Learning has on children.

In a 12-week program executed across 4 schools, around 550 students grew in understanding their emotions and how to manage them. Teachers observed a notable increase in student engagement, a significant improvement in empathy, and a greater ability for students to articulate complex emotions.

92% of Hippocampus teachers indicated that there is an improvement in the interpersonal relationships of their students.

Key findings

In our recent impact assessment at Hippocampus schools, we saw 3 incredible results within just 12 weeks of Tilli:

• Emotional Awareness & Management: 64% of teachers reported observing significant improvement in students' ability to identify and manage their emotions.

• Interpersonal Skills: A notable 92% of teachers indicated that students demonstrated improved interactions, including increased friendliness and helpfulness towards one another.

• Empathy Development: 54% of teachers reported witnessing growth in students' capacity for empathy and understanding towards their peers.

What did we do?

The program was introduced to 550 students across from grade 1 to grade 3. Teachers joined our tried and tested upskilling program where they gained a toolbox of interventions, frameworks and insights into the world of SEL.

This support included:

• Weekly Play-Based Activities: Each week, students engaged in research-based, playful activities focused on a key skill—like managing emotions, practicing empathy, or setting goals.

• Teacher Training & Support: We provided teachers with a full SEL toolkit, teacher guidebooks, refresher training at the start of each semester and weekly support via WhatsApp so they could confidently bring these new lessons to life.

• 80% of Teachers reported positive change in their students after the program.

• 83.3% of Teachers rated the program effective or highly effective for students.
